After losing my significant other, I decided to spend two months touring Asia. I threw myself into work before I left, getting all my real estate projects buttoned up, but now it’s time to grieve — and what better place to do that than Vietnam and Thailand?
If you’ve been following me, you know shopping used to be my go-to. But since starting my financial journey 11–12 years ago, I’ve changed: I buy designer maybe once or twice a year and only after saving, and I stopped wasting money on impulse purchases. So while I’m in Vietnam, I thought, why not visit one of the biggest dupe markets and see what I can find?
Because I’ve worked in fashion and own a lot of designer pieces, I know what to look for — the cut, the fabric, the construction. I can tell what’s high quality and what’s not, what’s in and what’s out. So I decided to really dig in and find solid pieces myself, not rely on social media hype. Most people online haven’t actually bought designer before, so they don’t always know what they’re looking for.
It wasn’t anything special; I bought one Chrome heart t-shirt for $8. The price was right, but the quality wasn’t great — I’ve seen better. While exploring around the streets around Han market, I found Maison de Danang. The quality was top tier.
They do not accept credit cards, cash only. They carry brands like Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior and Balenciaga.
It reminded me of a trip I took to Phuket ten years ago, where I found tees that wore beautifully and still looked brand new. I bought the Dior t-shirt and the Chanel hat total price $45.
That memory pushed me to hunt for more dupes while I travel through Vietnam.
This is part one — I’m heading to Ho Chi Minh City next week and plan to pick up a few more. Saigon market my next stop.
